Roxborough Crochet Summer Tank Top

Easy and simple crochet tank top. Crochet with Premier Cotton fair yarn, a cotton, acrylic blend. A similar type yarn could be substituted.

Quick pattern to crochet, easy enough for a beginner to handle.

Roxborough Tank Top Pattern

Notes

The front is worked in two pieces joined together. One strap piece is worked separately and then other is used to join the two together.
The back is worked in two pieces and then seemed together.
The stitch count is written in the brackets as follows (small, medium, large, extra large) (2X, 3X, 4X, 5X)
Tank top is made with 2″ positive ease. If you would like the tank top to be looser fitting, go up one size.
If you’d like the tank top to be longer, add more rows to the bottom of both the front and back panel

Follow each of the steps for your size.

Strap Pieces

Using a 5mm crochet hook chain 4 (for all sizes)

Row 1: In the third chain from the hook hdc, hdc across, turn (3 sts)

Row 2: Ch 2, 2 hdc in the next stitch, 2 hdc in the last stitch, turn (5 sts)

Row 3: ch 3, hdc in the next stitch, ch 1, skip one stitch, hdc in the next stitch, ch 1, hdc in the last stitch, turn (7sts)

Row 4: ch 2, 3 hdc in the first chain space, 2hdc in the next chain space, 3hdc in the last chain space, turn (9 sts)

Row 5: ch 2, 2 hdc in the next st, hdc across, 2 hdc in the last st, turn (11 sts)

Row 6: ch 3, hdc in the next st, *(ch 1, skip 1 st, hdc in the next stitch)*, ch 1, hdc in last stitch, turn (13 sts)

Front

The first part of the front is worked making increases every row. The second part is worked in the regular pattern with no increases.

Starting with the strap piece you currently just worked, we will be attaching the other piece together to start working the front body of the piece.

Front Increases

Row 1: Ch 2, 2 hdc in the next st, hdc until the end. Chain (15, 19, 23, 25) (29, 31, 35,37), This chain will be the front neckline connecting each strap piece. Join the extra strap piece to the chain with an hdc, hdc across, 2 hdc in the last stitch, turn (47, 51, 55, 57)(73, 75, 79, 81)

Seeming the tank top

Weave in all ends.

Starting with the back

Place the top piece (the wide bottom) in the center of the bottom piece. Whip stitch or mattress stitch the two pieces together.

Now line up the back and the front sides from the bottom and whip stitch or mattress stitch the sides together.

Once everything is seemed together, make a slip stitch border around the bottom and the top of the tank top. This will clean up all your edges to give a nice finish

Braided straps

Cut 6 pieces of string double the length of your straps, for each strap

Hold them all together and fold them in half. You will make a lark’s head knot in each of the top points on the front side. Divide the yarn into three sections with two pieces of string in each section. Now braid each strap. Once you reach the end, tie a knot and sew it to each top side of the back of the tank top.
